Walking tracks There are
a wide variety of pristine and beautiful walking tracks to choose from in the immediate area. Some of
the favourites include: the Rakaia Gorge walkway, which meanders its way along the edge of the Rakaia
Gorge for 5 kilometres and passes through areas of geological and historic interest. This walk has
stunning views and wonderful native bush. Washpen Falls is a unique and private alpine walking track
through a canyon full of ancient and modern history. The canyon, formed by an ancient volcano with
its blind ravines was used by the Maori to trap and kill the giant flightless New Zealand bird, the
Moa. The walkway has a wonderful variety of New Zealand native bush and vibrant bird life.
